We are having an amazing week in NYC! My oldest daughter, Lizzie, and a family friend from Spain, Casilda, are doing a class at the NY School of Interior Design. Not only are they having a fun learning experience, but I also am indulging in all that makes NYC so exciting.
I have no agenda and love the chance to casually wander around neighborhoods in the city discovering new delights. The first highlight begins with our hotel, The Surrey Hotel at East 76th and Madison. http://www.thesurrey.com/ The private rooftop garden is one of the best kept secrets in the city as you can see from my photos….even my chic NYC friends did not know about it as one can only have access if visiting a hotel guest! 🙂 The location, ambience, friendly staff, fabulous spa and top dining venue of Cafe Boulud are only a few reasons why this “residential feel” hotel is such a gem.
We have enjoyed morning walks in Central Park, venturing to previously unexplored areas such as Harlem for “hot” new dining experiences like we had at the Red Rooster (http://redroosterharlem.com/). This fabulous restaurant run by Chef Marcus Samuelson serves scrumptious comfort food in a hip scene of live music and a true mixing bowl of patrons — black and white, Asian and Latino, straight and gay, young and old. The food celebrates the roots of American cuisine and the diverse culinary traditions of the neighborhood allowing for a very unique menu. Make sure to leave room for the mouth watering, melt in your mouth , sweet-potato donut holes with cinnamon sugar dipped in whipped cream!!
I can’t wait to share my new discoveries with you to make your next trip to NYC a new experience!
