Greece: Santorini

My daughter Anna and I enjoyed a wonderful few days in Santorini.  Read on for her impressions…

Santorini is everything you imagined it was and more. The whitewashed, cliff-hanging houses and blue domes make the picturesque island a hot spot to visit.

For our 2nd mother-daughter trip to Greece, Mom and I spent 3 nights at Canaves Oia Suites. Located in the town of Oia, it’s perched high up on the cliff just off the main strip of stores and restaurants – perfect walking distance to the famous blue domes and just far enough removed from the bustling town at night.

With the best sunset views on the island, Oia is a popular spot for tourists at night. The best bet for getting that perfect sunset picture is to go early just before the sun sets to avoid the crowds as much as possible.

Carved into the cliffside and painted all white, Canaves Oia’s suites make it a hard place to leave. With spectacular views and our own plunge pool, there was no better place to sit back and relax.

From down below, there is a lot to see as well. We spent one afternoon out on a catamaran passing by Red Beach, swimming in crystal clear water and eating the best Greek salad aboard for lunch – the feta is unbelievable.

For a delicious seaside lunch and a relaxed beach afternoon, we visited Armeni Restaurant just below the hotel at the bottom of the cliff. An iconic local restaurant, Armeni was the place to be. A small hole in the wall, Armeni was filled with character, serves the best greek food, and is home to one-of-a-kind waiters like Nicholas.

A quick and easy trip, Santorini was the perfect spot for a mother-daughter vacation with plenty of time to relax and explore the island. Where to next, mamma?

Easily accessible to other Greek islands, Santorini is the perfect destination paired with a trip to Paros, Mykonos or Naxos.
