Afloat in France: The Belmond Lilas

Summertime (or anytime), and the livin’ is easy on a slow boat through France.  Six nights floating through Burgundy on the Belmond Lilas made me a believer in the restorative power of a river cruise.  Belmond’s fleet  of luxury barges covers different itineraries, but all offer beautiful accommodations, fine dining, and leisurely stops at charming villages along the way.

With a maximum of eight passengers, a Belmond barge feels like your own floating villa with personalized service and staff.  You may never want to leave the boat.  When you do, though, there are bikes for exploring, paddleboards and kayaks for rowing, and local restaurants for lunching.

A river cruise is luxury on the move at a leisurely pace.  Slow down, and enjoy the ride…before or after a few days in Paris at The Ritz, one of my all-time favorites.  (See my Normandy/Paris blog post for details.)
