ART TRIP: Estancia Vik, Uruguay

I feel fortunate for the opportunities to travel to far and exotic places, though I rarely venture to such locales with a group.  However, I have just returned from somewhere far away that has beckoned me for the third time in two years.  I had to share it with friends for this latest adventure and boy did the sun, moon, and stars truly line up for this return to Estancia and Playa Vik (  Our mission was ART and rather than simply stroll past masterpieces hanging on a wall we were able to convive with the artists.

This trip included some amazing women…and one brave man who did not learn of his solo status until we met at the Miami airport. 🙂 He is a dear old friend who took it all in stride and with his wonderful wife let us all help celebrate his 50th birthday!

The entourage of artists in Uruguay quickly became like old friends.  We shared great laughs, late night dinners and even ended the trip with a little dancing.  But throughout our stay, the fun was interspersed with brilliant insights into the art/architecture and artists’ techniques.  Special thanks to Jose, Pablo (s), Marcelo and Alejandro!

Kike and Delhia, our multi-talented group leaders, quickly realized they had a group that was easy going, fun and very appreciative of all the hard work they did to make this once in a lifetime trip so special.  Alejandro, the adorable naturalist/artist, kept us all entertained by kayaking, leading nature walks, drinking mate, and simply allowing us to enjoy his great easy going personality. He was a great highlight for all of us!

With our local guides and artists, we visited places that were far from the regular tourist haunts.  The insights shared and spectacular sites will never be forgotten.

I want to give special thanks to my dear friends Max and Agustin, the Director and GM of these properties, for all they did to make this one of the top trips of my lifetime.  Thanks for sharing many fun moments with us!

I will let these photos help tell the story as I do not think it could be recounted in words.  Sharing so many cool experiences with such a great group made me rethink this group thing…I cannot imagine my next adventure without you!!
